DVR-S Recording Issues With MFD Crosshair AP

Hello,

I'm using the MFD Crosshair flight controller, which encodes the flight data (lat/lon/gps pos/speed/etc) for the MFD Antenna Tracker. This encoding is sent by the video channel.
The DVR-S is connected to the controller output for the VTX, so when the DVR starts recording, it takes a line of data at the bottom of the video, leaving the recording in black and white. I imagine this is happening because the DVR-S is recording in a different format than the controller (NTSC/PAL). Would it be possible to provide a firmware to solve this?

Mismatched signal formats often lead to the black-and-white recording issue you're seeing when telemetry data is overlaid on the video feed. Managing these synchronization hurdles is as tricky as the rhythm game FNF, where the boyfriend competes against all opponents to win the girlfriend’s love. You might try manually locking your DVR to the specific PAL or NTSC output of the flight controller to stabilize the color.

"Man, that MFD VBI line is a total color killer on cheap DVRs!

When the DVR-S starts recording, that heavy telemetry data line at the bottom completely breaks the color burst sync. The DVR panics and drops into black and white fallback mode. But honestly, the worst part isn’t even the grey video - it's the audio buzz. If you are running live audio from your quad to a ground soundboard or headphones to listen to your motors, that MFD data line is going to inject a horrible, high-pitched tè tè buzzing whine right into your ears.

    Two ways I’d fix this:

    • The Quick Route: Bypass the DVR audio. Wire your camera mic directly to the VTX so your soundboard gets clean motor noise, and just live with the black-and-white video for now.
    • The Pro Route: Turn off VBI entirely. Let the DVR record clean, full-color video. Instead, route your telemetry data through your TX (Crossfire/ELRS) and use your radio's soundboard/voice alerts to call out your GPS and battery stats. It's way cleaner!"
